Canyoning levels in Reunion
Our canyoning routes are classified according to four levels of difficulty, ranging from initiation accessible to all to the descents committed reserved for experienced practitioners.
Here is a guide to choose the right canyon according to your physical condition, your aquatic ease and your desire for adventure.
Level 1 - canyoning accessible to all
- Perfect for families, children or groups at various levels
- Canyons known as family or adapted to heterogeneous groups (age, physical shape)
- short approach/return: between 2 and 30 minutes
- Simple reminders: from 10 to 30 meters, easy to manage technically
- Sweet aquatic atmosphere: adapted to people little comfortable in the water (but fearless)
- The neoprene combination ensures good buoyancy - it is important to remain calm
- Optional jumps: never compulsory
- Total effort duration: 2 to 3 hours
ideal for a beginner canyoning in Reunion.
Level 2 - Technically easy canyoning with a minimum of physical shape
- Technically accessible canyons, but requiring physical good will
- Moderate approach/return steps: between 30 minutes and 1h30
- Simple to intermediaries: from 20 to 60 meters
- Immersion in water: stay immersed 2 to 3 seconds, without difficulty in resurring
- Always adapted to people knowing little to swim but at ease in the water
- Jumps always optional
- Staff duration: 4 to 5 hours
A good compromise between adventure and accessibility: for those who want to get out of their comfort zone without going to the extreme.
Level 3 - Sports and technical canyoning
- For participants with good physical condition and motor ease
- Physical approach/return steps: often in steep terrain, with carrying of equipment (bag, strings ...)
- Total duration: 4 to 8 hours
- Technical reminders: descent on the feet often compulsory, up to 60–80 meters, sometimes with rope changes in the wall
- A monitor assists you on the complex passages
- Burned aquatic environment: knowing how to swim and being comfortable is essential (ability to stay submerged for 3 seconds)
- Recommended jumps (optional but sometimes useful for respecting timing)
- Staff duration: 5 to 8 hours
ideal for those who already practice outdoor sports or want to push their limits.
Level 4 - very sporty, committed canyoning, reserved for initiates
- Physically extreme canyons, with demanding technical passages
- Good autonomy required: despite the presence of an instructor, certain passages are done independently
- Long and difficult approach/return steps: often with load (ropes, cans ...), from 2 to 6 cumulative hours
- Very technical reminders: up to 300 cumulative meters, sometimes with changes of rope in the wall
- Mastery of essential swimming, prolonged immersion, powerful water movements
- Jumps recommended to save time, but never imposed
- Total effort duration: between 8 and 12 hours
This level is intended for experienced practitioners, used to long effort, exposure and isolated environments.
